Delaware North Company Partners with Greener Fields Together to Increase Spend on Local Produce

Delaware North, a global food service and hospitality company, has partnered with PRO*ACT’s seed-to-fork sustainability program, Greener Fields Together (GFT), to launch a new hospitality program at Delaware North locations across the US and Canada. This program launched on April 1st, 2018 with the intent to increase Delaware North’s procurement of local and sustainable produce to an average of 15% across all locations and to educate consumers on Delaware North’s sustainable supply chain.

This ambitious launch is the result of a successful pilot program between Greener Fields Together and Delaware North that ran at five of Delaware North’s top locations last year. From May 1st to September 30th, 2017, these pilot locations worked closely with GFT and PRO*ACT distributors to source more produce from farms in their respective regions.  By the end of the pilot, the participating locations increased local produce procurement from 13.2% to 18% on average.

Supporting local agriculture is a crucial component of building stronger, more resilient food systems and communities. Benefits of supporting local agriculture include: stimulating the local economy, preserving local and small-scale farmland, reducing fossil fuel consumption, increasing nutritional value, strengthening community relationships, and supporting supply chain transparency. Ultimately, the new GFT program launch at Delaware North locations will have the ability to positively impact individual communities and strengthen regional food systems on a national scale.
